SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES

The Garner Woman’s Club Presents:

The Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship – $2,500 Award

Each year, the Garner Woman’s Club proudly awards the Sallie Southall Cotten Scholarship to a deserving high school senior from the Garner area. This scholarship honors students who exemplify strong character, academic achievement, leadership potential, ambition, and a genuine need for financial support as they pursue higher education.

This scholarship is awarded based on the candidate’s character, scholastic records, evidence of intellectual promise, demonstration of ambition, leadership ability, and need for financial assistance.

1. Applicant must be a resident of Garner, North Carolina and must be a member of a senior class in an accredited North Carolina high school.
2. Applicant must use the official application form.
3. The scholarship is to be used at a four-year college or university in the state ofNorth Carolina.

THE FOLLOWING MUST BE SUBMITTED

• Application form.
• Recent photograph.
• A personal letter as to why student desires to continue his/her education, the student’s future, and why the student is applying for this scholarship.
• One letter of recommendation from either the school principal, school guidance counselor, teacher, or any other business/professional person.
• High school transcript with grades through the first semester of senior year, complete SAT and/or ACT scores, class rank with number of students in class, and grade point average weighted and unweighted.
• Applicant should be available for an interview with the Scholarship Committee at The Garner Woman’s Club during the month of January 2026 and be available for presentation of the scholarship on May 14, 2026 at The Garner Woman’s Club.

Deadline: January 9, 2026

Applicant will not be considered unless all required items listed above have been received by the deadline.
