For almost 100 years, the women of the Garner Woman's Club have been part of the heart of this community. To mark our centennial, we're celebrating the best way we know how: by serving the people and places we love.
This term, our club launched 100 Seeds of Kindness, a special project led by Club President Michelle Uphold. Our goal is to complete 100 acts of kindness across Garner between September 2026 and March 2028.
Small acts, big impact
The idea is simple. Every act of kindness is a seed, and when enough seeds are planted, something beautiful grows. Our members are giving their time, talents, and care to neighbors, families, local organizations, and the wider community. Each act is done by at least two members working together, so the project also strengthens the friendships at the center of our club.
These acts don't need to be grand. A home-cooked meal, a handwritten note, an afternoon spent volunteering, or a helping hand for a neighbor can all brighten someone's day. We believe those small moments add up to real change.
A garden that grows with every act
To track our progress, we're building a paper flower garden at our club meetings. Each completed act of kindness adds one petal to a flower. We also have an online version for all to follow. By spring 2028, we hope to see a garden in full bloom, with every petal standing for a moment when someone in Garner felt cared for.
Off to a wonderful start
We're thrilled to share that just one week after the project began, members had already completed three acts of kindness. Our thanks go to Margaret, Sheryl, Caroline, and Amanda for planting the first seeds.
"This makes my heart so happy," said President Uphold. "Every act is a seed of kindness, and together we can plant 100 of them and watch them grow into something beautiful."
Follow along
We'll share stories and photos as our garden grows over the coming months. We hope they inspire you to plant a few seeds of kindness of your own.
