Celebrating Our 2026 Scholarship Winner: Klinton “Gus” Lloyd

The Garner Woman’s Club is overjoyed to celebrate an extraordinary young man from right here in our community. Klinton “Gus” Lloyd, a senior at South Garner High School, has been named the 2026 Garner Woman’s Club Scholarship recipient — a $2,500 award recognizing outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community service. He also captured the GFWC-NC District 6 Scholarship and is currently in the running for the GFWC-NC Overall Scholarship. Simply put: Gus is the real deal.

What makes Gus stand out isn’t any single accomplishment — it’s the sheer breadth and depth of his commitment to everything he pursues. At South Garner High School, he maintains A and A/B Honor Roll standing while participating in the National Honor Society. He’s a member of the All County Orchestra, Marching Band, and Jazz Band, serves as a Sound Engineer and Pit Orchestra member for school productions, and even gives back as a Teacher’s Assistant for Beginning Band students. Oh, and he also competes in Cross Country and Varsity Tennis. When Gus finds something worth doing, he goes all in.

Gus’s decade of involvement in Scouting tells an equally impressive story. Starting with Pack/Troop 10 in Garner in 2015, he earned the Arrow of Light, completed the Order of the Arrow Ordeal, and served as an Elangomat, NYLT participant, Den Chief, and Bugler. He served as an Ambassador for The Wall that Heals and as Honorary Color Guard for President George W. Bush — experiences that speak to his reverence for service and sacrifice. Now with Troop/Crew 320 in Fuquay Varina, he’s working toward his Eagle Scout rank while serving as Patrol Leader, Crew Lead, Scribe, and Instructor.

Beyond school and Scouting, Gus has made his mark on the broader Garner community. He regularly plays bugle at Town of Garner civic ceremonies — Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Wreaths Across America. He is the youngest-ever member of NC Friends of State Parks, attending board meetings and participating in conservation service days. And since August 2024, he’s been working at Chick-fil-A in Rand Village, demonstrating the same work ethic and hospitality in his professional life that he brings to every other endeavor.

Gus is currently deciding between several North Carolina universities, and we have no doubt that wherever he lands, he will make his school — and our community — immensely proud. The Garner Woman’s Club is honored to play even a small role in supporting the next chapter of his journey.
